All technologies, including the most innovative, are always built on other existing technologies and adapted to new targets. The progress is relentless and unstoppable, like the evolution of living species. As in other fields, medical technology is presently experiencing a momentous time.A\This review aims to provide an update of developments that promise to revolutionize the treatment of diabetes. It concerns hospital and outpatient care, intensive insulin therapy, blood glucose monitoring, and innovative steps towards the construction of a real artificial pancreas.
