The discipline of newborn neurology continues to be of great academic and clinical interest, with, continual advances being made in basic and clinical research. As our understanding of the mechanisms contributing to brain injury continues to grow, it has been paralleled by the introduction of targeted strategies in several instances. The second edition of this volume has been expanded with three additional chapters, including the potential contribution of stress and viral infections to neonatal brain injury and the diagnostic role of amplitude EEG in the neonatal intensive care unit. The contributing authors are all outstanding clinicians, as well as researchers, who have developed expertise that relates directly or indirectly to neonatal neurologic problems.
