The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and the president, Ian Khama, will maintain their dominance of the political scene, although uncertainty is set to increase ahead of March 2018 when Mr Khama's final term comes to an end.
Notwithstanding its strong performance in the October 2014 general election, the opposition will struggle to boost its effectiveness in the face of continuing divisions.
