The president, Pierre Nkurunziza, and his ruling Conseil national pour la defense de la democratie-Forces pour la defense de la democratie (CNDD-FDD) will dominate the political scene in 2015-16.
Despite resistance from the opposition, Mr Nkurunziza is likely to stand for a third presidential term in 2015 (by circumventing the constitutional term limit) and to win the election comfortably.
