The minority coalition of the Social Democrats and Social Liberal Party has been weakened by the departure of the Socialist People's Party (SF) in January 2014 and the growing strength of the populist Danish People's Party (DF).
The budget deficit will test the EU's 3% of GDP ceiling as the impact of extraordinary revenue vanishes from 2015. Despite a long-term government reform agenda, the public finances are unlikely to return to surplus by 2019.
The recovery from the recession of 2008-09 remains fragile, and geopolitical tension means a subdued export outlook. Danish real GDP growth is forecast to accelerate only moderately to an average of 1.7% during 2015-19.
