Political stability is set to remain precarious in the wake of presidential and parliamentary elections held on October 12th across Bosnia and Hercegovina (BiH), which mostly confirmed the nationalist parties' hold on power.
The Economist Intelligence Unit estimates that real GDP growth will slow to 1.1% in 2014, from 2.5% in 2013, owing to the effect of floods on the economy. Growth is forecast to average 3.2% per year in 2015-19 as demand picks up.
The current-account deficit is expected to widen to 7.2% of GDP in 2014, from 5.1% of GDP in 2013, with exports disrupted by floods. It is forecast to expand to an average of 8.7% of GDP in 2015-19 as import demand rises.
