The South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO), which has governed Namibia since the country gained independence, will dominate the political scene, having secured a landslide victory in the November 2014 elections.
The Economist Intelligence Unit forecasts that inflation will decrease to an average of 4.3% in 2015-helped by lower oil prices-before edging up to an average of 5.3% in 2016-19, driven by inflationary trends in South Africa.
After rising to 8.1% of GDP in 2015 on the back of strong non-oil import growth, the current-account deficit will narrow to 5% of GDP in 2019, as new mines come on stream and global mineral prices strengthen.
