Political effectiveness is worsening as the president, Horatio Cartes, enters his second year in office. A governability pact is still in place, but opposition to Mr Cartes's agenda is growing within his own party, the Partido Colorado.
Barring supply-side shocks affecting food prices, annual inflation will remain' within the target range (5% plus or minus 2 percentage points) set by the Banco Central del Paraguay (the Central Bank).
In Paraguay's commodity-dependent economy, the current-account balance will fluctuate in line with movements in international commodity prices. But solid agro-export prospects should keep it in surplus.
