The ruling Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) is expected to secure another strong mandate in this year's legislative election, which some opposition parties may boycott.
The Economist Intelligence Unit forecasts that real GDP growth will average 7% a year in 2015-19 as the dominant agricultural sector performs solidly and electricity supply improves.
Exports will continue to be outstripped by imports, which are being fuelled by high demand for capital goods. The current-account deficit will widen to 6.4% of GDP in 2015 and will average 8.4% of GDP a year in 2016-19.
