The leftist president, Evo Morales of the ruling Movimiento al Socialismo ((MAS), took office for his third term on January 22nd, ensuring policy continuity.
Weaker gas prices will hurt revenue, but Mr Morales intends to press on with ambitious public investment plans, which will prevent a return to a non financial public sector surplus-the deficit reached 1.8% of GDP in 2014.
Brazilian and Argentinian demand for gas will support the economy, but The Economist Intelligence Unit expects GDP growth to slow in 2015-19, reflecting limited progress on improving the business environment and productivity.
