Amid a weaker currency and rising electricity tariffs, the Banco Central do Brasil (BCB, the Central Bank) will lift its Selic policy interest rate (12.75% currently) to 13% in late April, before going on hold.
Amid tighter fiscal and monetary policies, GDP is set to contract by 0.5% in 2015, and grow weakly in 2016. However, adjustments should set the stage for GDP growth to rise towards 2% and above later in the forecast period.
