The control of the president, Ali Bongo Ondimba, over the country and the ruling Parti democratique gabonais (PDG) will remain relatively secure, but grievances over both his election and reforms will lead to periodic protests.
Helped by felling global food prices, inflation will slow to an average of 24% in 2015. With public subsidies remaining in place, inflation will remain subdued in 2016-19, averaging 2.8%.
As oil prices and output fell, the current account will move into deficit in 2015, to the tune of 5.4% of GDP. Despite rising non-oil exports and a recovery in oil prices, the shortfall will persist in 2016-19, averaging 1.6% of GDP.
