The president，Paul Biya，who wonthe 2011 presidential election by a sizeable margin，will-health permitting-remain the dominant political force until the next presidential election，due in late 2018，by which time he will be 85．
Mr Biya‘s successor is likely to come from within the ranks of the ruling party,the Rassemblement ddmocratique du peuple camerounais(RDPC)，which has a strong grip on the National Assembly,the Senate and municipal councils．
