The Finnish Statistical Yearbook of Forestry 2014 presents key statistics on Finland’s forests, forestry and forest industries. It also includes statistics concerning the forest environment, multiple uses of forests and environmental issues. The Yearbook thus provides basic information for purposes such as planning and implementing forest and environmental policies and conducting research in the area of renewable natural resources.
The first Finnish Statistical Yearbook of Forestry was published in the late 1960s, and the current edition is the 44th. The Yearbook is a joint effort, requiring a substantial amount of work with the various experts involved and other partners that have an interest in the forest sector. Close collaboration within the editorial team is critical for ensuring the coherency of the content. We would also like to thank all our active readers, whose feedback and suggestions have contributed to the content of the Yearbook. We have sought to listen to their views and improve the Yearbook accordingly.
On 1 January 2015, a new research organisation called Natural Resources Institute Finland will be established through the merger of the Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla), the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute (RKTL), MTT Agrifood Research Finland, and the statistical services of the Information Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (Tike). This also involves combining the statistics produced by the merging organisations. The new statistical unit will produce not only forest sector statistics but also statistics on agriculture and on game and fisheries. Consequently, the compilation of statistics will take on some new forms, and gradually a more diverse range of statistical products and services will be available.
We will continue to serve our customers to the best of our ability, and will produce statistics on the Finnish forest sector that are as reliable, up to date and user-friendly as possible.
