摘要
South Korea's ratio of total healthcare spending to GDP, at an estimated 6.5% in 2013, leaves it among the lowest-ranked countries in the OECD. On average, OECD countries spend the equivalent of 9.5% of GDP on healthcare goods and services. Annual healthcare expenditure per head in South Korea is also among the lowest in the OECD, at an estimated US$1,690 in 2013.
Allied with the changing demographic profile and an expanding economy, this suggests that there is plenty of room for sustained growth in the healthcare market in 2014-18, particularly in the areas of the care and treatment of chronic and lifestyle-related diseases. The Economist Intelligence Unit expects healthcare spending to increase to around 6.7% of GDP by 2014 and then to rise again, to 6.8%, by 2018.
Healthcare spending will rise by an average of 6.8% a year in local-currency terms in the forecast period, to reach Wi29.itrn (US$i2i.8bn) by 2018; in US dollar terms it will increase by 7.5% annually on average. Spending per head will rise at a slightly slower rate, reflecting a marginal increase in the population.
