摘要
Over the forecast period (2015-20) energy will remain the dominant sector, despite government attempts at economic diversification. Azerbaijan has 0.4% of world oil reserves and 0.5% of natural-gas reserves, according to BP (UK). Earnings from hydrocarbons sales account for around 90% of total export revenue.
Oil production more than doubled between 2005 and 2010, reaching over 1m barrels/day, but has subsequently been weaker, partly owing to maintenance work at the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) oilfield, and partly because no new fields have come on stream. The Economist Intelligence Unit estimates that production in 2013 was 46.6m tonnes (935,000 b/d).
We estimate that oil output has fallen in 2014 by 14%, but forecast a slight recovery in 2015. Oil production will then contract in 2016-20 by about 2.6% on average per year.
