摘要
Algeria's economy will remain dominated by the oil and gas sector throughout the forecast period (2015-20). Hydrocarbons typically account for over 97% of exports earnings, and the government will ensure that it remains the priority industry.
The Economist Intelligence Unit expects real GDP to grow by an average annual rate of 3.3% in 2015-19. Growth in energy consumption will be fester, at an annual average of over 6% in 2015-20, as the government focuses on diversifying the economy and new gas-fired power capacity comes online.
The oil and gas sector is controlled by Sonatrach, a state-owned company. Sonatrach is actively engaging in deals with international partners in Algeria and is particularly interested in developing non-conventional assets such as shale gas.
Political and security risk will remain a concern, both for supply and for future investors, after a natural gas facility was attacked by Islamist militants in early 2013, an unprecedented attack in Algeria's long history of oil and gas production.
