摘要
Austria has a relatively small passenger-car market by European standards, with the annual number of new-car registrations averaging around 320,000 over the past decade. New-car registrations declined for a third successive year in 2014, amid ongoing weak economic activity and sentiment. The Economist Intelligence Unit forecasts that sales growth will resume in 2015 in line with a muted upturn in domestic demand, but medium-term prospects are subdued.
Austria's car industry is small, accounting for only around 0.2% of global production. The automotive sector is highly export-oriented, with some 95% of domestic production (including parts and accessories) sold abroad, according to the Association of the Austrian Vehicle Industry (FV).
The level of car ownership in Austria is high compared with most other EU countries, reflecting the relative wealth of the population. Austrians show a preference for diesel-powered cars, which account for the majority of new-car registrations.
