The Economist Intelligence Unit's baseline forecast is for healthcare spending to rise by an annual average of 64% in US dollar terms until 2018, when it is expected to reach US$151bn. This will equate to annual growth averaging 8.5% in local-currency terms. Growth in per head terms will be slightly higher, reflecting Russia's declining population.
Real growth in income over the medium term is expected to remain below levels before the financial crisis in 2008. The government's budget position will be more constrained, which will also limit healthcare spending growth.
