Mobile-phone penetration will continue to grow, albeit at slower rates than in the past. The ratio of pre-paid subscriptions is easing as more users switch to post-paid subscriptions, which grew by 14.5% year on year in October 2014. However, pre-paid subscriptions account for 76.3% of the total.
Overall mobile revenue will be driven by mobile-data services as 3G becomes more developed, allowing mobile-phone operators to compete with fixed operators in low-speed/low-cost broadband access. Of the total market, 3G handsets currently account for 25%, with scope for growth. The roll-out of 4G will also drive mobile revenue. The number of 4G subscriptions totalled 4.2m in October 2014, with considerable growth potential.
