The size of Hungary's population and its development level as a middle— income country make it a small market.Rising levels of disposable income and improving consumer confidence over the medium to long term will support growth. The fallout from the debt crisis and recession in the euro zone hit Hungary hard,and slowed the trend that has the country moving closer to west
European income levels. The Economist Intelligence Unit estimates that retail sales feU in 2012(in US dollar terms)amidst the recession,but recovered in 2013-14.Forint weakening is expected to see sales in US dollar terms fall again in 2015.before they grow in the rest of our forecast period.We expect that retail sales volumes will grow by an average of 2.2%a year in 2015—19.and retail sales values(in US dollar terms)bv 2.7%.Retail sales make up over 60%of consumer spending.
