The Ministry of Health's Strategic Plan 2013-17 provides the framework for the continued transformation of the healthcare system. It includes revised targets for a wide range of performance indicators such as infant mortality rates, vaccination rates and out-of-pocket health expenditure.
Improvements in governance in the healthcare system, a tough Pharmaceuticals pricing regime and government efforts to promote cheaper generic drugs will continue to help to control public healthcare spending. Pharmaceuticals are the largest item in public health expenditure, accounting for about 25% of the total.
