摘要
Thailand has experienced rapid growth in the use of mobile phones over the last five years, with the number of mobile subscriptions forecast to increase from 148 per 100 people in 2014 to 156 in 2019, according to Economist Intelligence Unit estimates. The country has a population of 66m, so many users have more than one subscription.
Demand remains dominated by pre-paid services, a characteristic of the Thai mobile market that we expect to continue through the medium term. According to data from the telecoms regulator, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), at the end of the first quarter of 2014 the installed user base of 94.9m users was 88% pre-paid.
Post-paid subscriptions grew about 2% fester than pre-paid subscriptions last year, suggesting a low but growing appetite for longer-term contracts. This may enable operators to sell more subsidised phones with service plans, a key revenue generator in more mature markets.
