摘要
With little in the way of oil or gas reserves, and with energy consumption growth outpacing production,Turkey has long been a large energy importer.
This, and its location at the intersection of the Middle East,Russia and Europe, means that Turkey will continue to play an important role at the crossroads of regional energy politics. Turkey does not produce electricity from nuclear sources, but the government is determined to begin doing SO by 2020.Given the controversy surrounding nuclear power, however,The Economist Intelligence Unit does not factor nuclear power into its forecast period(2015-20). The sharp faU in global energy prices in US dollar terms since mid一2014 will have some beneficial effects for Turkey as a major importer of fossil fuels.
However, the concurrent weakening of the Tuddsh currency against the US dollar Will offset a large part of the gains.Partly for this reason。we do not expect lower global oil and gas prices to hinder government efforts to increase the share of renewables in power generation.
