Kazakhstan is a leading energy producer in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Aside from oil and natural gas, Kazakhstan is also a sizeable coal producer. The energy sector, which currently accounts for around 30% of GDP and more than half of export revenue, will remain the country's dominant sector despite efforts to diversify the economy.
Kazakhstan's energy mix will remain dominated by fossil fuels (oil, natural gas and coal) over the forecast period, with such fuels forecast to account for almost the entirety of the energy mix.
