摘要

Brazil is still one of the most attractive automotive markets. In 2011 the country became the world's third-largest market for passenger and light commercial vehicles, overtaking Japan, Germany, the UK, France and Italy in the past five years. Brazil remains a long way behind the US and China (the leader), however.
After a multi-year boom, domestic sales of all vehicles declined by 0.9% in 2013 and by another 9.1% in the first three quarters of 2014, partly reflecting tighter credit. After a year of adjustment in 2014 and as tax breaks are phased out, the outlook is for softer growth than in the past, owing to weaker private consumption growth.
Automotive trade between Brazil and Argentina is important to both economies, but it has not always run smoothly. The multi-year trade deal between the two expired in July 2013, impairing Brazilian exports. Under a new deal signed in June 2014, Brazil must import US$1 in automotive products from Argentina in exchange for every US$1.50 it exports. The ratio was previously US$1 to US$1.95. This agreement will last until June 30th 2015, when negotiators will seek a longer-term deal.
