摘要

Argentina's retail market is estimated at US$111bn in 2014, making it the third-largest in Latin America (it trails Brazil and Mexico by some distance). A consumer spending boom that began in the mid-2ooos has ended amid rampant inflation, persistent currency depreciation pressures and recession.
Retail sales were hit hard in 2014, and they will remain subdued in 2015. The Economist Intelligence Unit currently projects a fall in real retail sales in 2015 of 2.9%. In US-dollar terms, retail sales will fall by 0.3% (after a 16% drop in 2014).
Despite recent economic difficulties, at purchasing power parity (PPP), per-head incomes are still among the highest in Latin America. Although income inequality and poverty remain relatively high, they are lower than in most of the rest of the region.
