Thailand has experienced rapid growth in the use of mobile phones over the last five years, with the number of mobile subscriptions increasing from 99 per 100 people in 2009 to 129.5 in 2014, according to Economist Intelligence Unit estimates.
Mobile revenue in local-currency terms will expand by an average of 54% a year in 2014-18, with 2014 expected to drive down average growth in this period owing to a generalised slump in aggregate demand following an extended period of political turmoil. Over the longer term, revenue growth will rebound and be supported by the launch of new products and strong demand for mobile Internet services, particularly in urban areas.
