摘要
Taiwan's financial services industry is large, generating about 7% of national economic output and 3.8% of employment in 2014, according to official statistics. However, its weighting in the economy has declined slightly in the past decade as the result of faster expansion in other industry sectors.
Although still not as highly developed as those of some OECD countries, Taiwan's financial industry is increasingly sophisticated. However, it remains fragmented and is subject to distorting government interference and control. laiwan's banking sector is saturated, with too many banks chasing too few customers. As a result, net interest margins have fallen to among the lowest levels in Asia. The country's banks will expand aggressively overseas in 2015-19, especially in mainland China and south-east Asia, in search of higher returns. However, this will also expose them to a broader degree of credit risk.
