At an estimated 7.3% of GDP in 2013, Israel spends a relatively modest share of national income on healthcare by the standards of other OECD countries (where it averages over 9% of GDP). We expect the proportion of spending on healthcare to remain broadly unchanged throughout the forecast period.
Health spending on the growing elderly population will expand as political pressure leads to more treatments being provided under insurance schemes. After taking into account population growth averaging 1.7% a year, spending per head will increase to US$3,759 by the end of the forecast period, up from an estimated US$2,655 in 2013.
