By the second half of the forecast period, mobile-phone technologies that also support cost-effective voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) will be in commercial use, exerting further pressure on operators.
Mobile tariffs are low, helped by the liberalised and competitive nature of the market. Price competition remains intense. Cuts to mobile termination rates have also contributed to lower prices. That said, OECD data show that as at late 2012, termination rates in Finland were the eighth highest among 35 countries surveyed.
Wholesale and retail prices for mobile data roaming have also come down, as Finland has implemented EU directives requiring telecoms providers to lower rates.
