摘要
At an estimated 3.9% of GDP in 2013, Thailand spends proportionately less on healthcare than the Philippines (4.6%), Malaysia (44%), around the same as Singapore (3.9%) and more than Indonesia (2.8%).
Following the predicted slow growth in 2014, the Thai economy is forecast to expand by 5.2% on average in 2015-18, up from 3.0% in 2009-13. However, the government will be forced to reduce its budget deficit from an estimated equivalent of 4.4% of GDP in 2012 (its widest point in recent years), and this will limit the funds available for direct budgetary spending on healthcare. The Economist Intelligence Unit therefore expects healthcare's share of GDP to stay flat, despite population growth and rising demand.
In local-currency terms, healthcare spending will rise by 8.8% a year on average in 2014-18, up from 5.6% in 2009-13. This equates to average growth of 8.1% a year in US-dollar terms over the forecast period. By 2018 annual healthcare spending will stand at US$18.8bn, up from an estimated US$12.8bn in 2013.
