Mobile telecommunications is the largest segment of the market. The mobile-phone market is highly saturated and increasingly mature. Many customers have multiple subscriptions. In 2013 there were an estimated 137.2 subscriptions per 100 people. This is expected to rise to 143.9 per 100 people by the end of the 2014-18 forecast period.
T-Mobile (majority-owned by Deutsche Telekom of Germany) is the largest mobile-phone operator in the Czech Republic, with a customer base of 5.5m people and a market share of 39.2%, against 364% for Telefonica O2 (now O2 Czech Republic), the second-largest operator according to its customer base but the largest telecoms company by market capitalisation. Vodafone (UK), the third-largest operator, has been steadily increasing its market share, which now stands at around 25%.
