摘要
The outlook for the consumer goods market is positive, driven by demographics and economic fundamentals, as real wage growth, the continued popularity of Singapore as a tourist destination and policies to limit inward migration of lower-income temporary workers will keep aggregate demand stronger over the forecast period. After relatively modest gains in 2013, The Economist Intelligence Unit expects growth in retail sales to accelerate over the forecast period.
We forecast that personal disposable income per head will exceed US$26,800 in 2014, and expect real GDP to grow by an average of 4.1% a year in 2014-18, in turn increasing average household wealth; over one-third of households are forecast to earn more than US$150,000 a year by 2018, implying steadily increasing demand for higher-quality retail and consumption opportunities.
Singapore's population of over 54m is entirely urban and the most affluent in per-head terms in South-east Asia, with consumer spending per head forecast at US$23,348 in 2014.
