摘要
Russia is one of the world's leading energy producers. It was one of the world's largest oil producers in 2013, and was the second-largest natural-gas producer in that year as well (the shale gas boom in the US having allowed that country to take the lead). Russia is also one of the world's largest coal producers.
Although coal and gas will continue to dominate the energy mix, Russia is set to expand its nuclear-generating capacity dramatically over the forecast period (2014-20). The Economist Intelligence Unit expects nuclear-generating capacity to increase from an estimated 26400 mwe in 2012 to around 42,500 mwe in 2020, with its share of total generation rising to around 20% at the end of the forecast period.
Energy efficiency has been improving since the crisis of 2008-09, as energy intensity has declined. Growth in energy consumption has been much slower than GDP growth. This trend is expected to continue over the medium term, encouraged by increases in domestic energy prices.
