摘要
The economic crisis has led to swingeing cuts in healthcare spending in Greece since 2009. According to the latest available OECD data, in 2012 Greece spent 9.3% of GDP on healthcare, down from 10.2% of GDP in 2009. Greece's expenditure of 9.3% of GDP was equal to the OECD average, but below levels above 11% of GDP spent in other European countries such as France, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
During the economic depression of recent years, Greece made the biggest reduction in its healthcare budget of any OECD country. Health spending has fallen every year since 2009, driven by a sharp reduction in public spending as the government sought to reduce the budget deficit under pressure from external creditors. Double-digit percentage cuts in health spending in 2010 and in 2012 left overall health expenditure about 25% below its peak in 2008.
