摘要
The automotive industry makes only a minor contribution to Singapore's export-driven economy. Major industries include electronics, machinery and equipment manufacturing, and oil-refining. The city state has no car factories, and vehicle demand is met entirely by imports. Japanese manufacturers dominate passenger-car sales.
Although economic growth will average a strong 4.5% a year in 2014-18, the number of new-vehicle registrations is set to remain low. This will reflect the authorities' aim of tackling congestion in the city state by imposing quotas and increasing the cost of buying a new car. Officials have indicated that their intention is to keep the number of cars on the road static.
