Japanese consumers have eagerly embraced mobile telephony, and the mobile market remains dynamic given the popularity of 4G services and long-term evolution (LTE) technology.
The number of mobile subscriptions reached an estimated 147.9m (or 116 per 100 people) in 2013, and The Economist Intelligence Unit forecasts that it will exceed 174m (138 per 100 people) in 2018. A major fector driving mobile-phone demand during the forecast period will be fester access speeds and improvements in smartphone technology.
