Israel has never had significant domestic civilian consumer or commercial vehicle manufacturing capacity,and currently has none．There are no foreign。 owned vehicle—manufacturing plants either．All vehides are therefore imported．Israel does，however,have a significant high-technology design and manufacturing industry for automotive parts，encompassing around 150 companies in total． Car ownership is low by European standards，but hi出by Middie Eastern standards．After reaching record 1evels in 2011．sales dedined in 2012 before a partial recovery m 2013 and an even stronger surge m 2014,to reach new records．The Economist Intelligence Unit expects economic growth and higher disposable income--notably via lower ruel prices—to support further expansion．although worsening congestion will act as a constraint． There were almost 3m registered vehicles on Israeli roads at the end of
September 2014，4．1％higher than in the corresponding month of the previous year．Of the total stock of vehides，82．7％were private cars，13-1％were trucks and commercial vehides(including taxis，buses，minibuses and special vehicles)and 4．2％were motorcycles．
