摘要
Belgium spent an estimated 11.3% of GDP on public and private healthcare in 2013, slightly more than the OECD average, but less than Germany and much less than the US. In euro terms, Belgium's total healthcare spending has grown steadily since the 1990s, when it was well below the OECD average.
Spending growth will be constrained as the government seeks to reduce its fiscal deficit and debt. In October 2014 a new centre-right government was formed with a strong fiscal reform and retrenchment agenda.
Further healthcare spending powers and responsibilities were devolved to the regions under a reform agreed in 2011 and effective from 2014. Further devolution of powers remains possible under the new government.
