摘要
Total healthcare expenditure in Denmark has expanded fester than GDP over the past decade, and now accounts for 11% of GDP. This was higher than the OECD average of 9.3% in 2012, and the seventh-highest of 34 OECD countries.
The Social Democrat-led government recently announced a further Dkr5bn (US$900m) investment in healthcare for 2015-18. Cancer dominates its health strategy, with Dkr1.1bn set aside to help combat the country's biggest killer. A further Dkr1.5bn has been earmarked for chronic conditions such as diabetes and lung disease.
The Economist Intelligence Unit forecasts that healthcare spending will rise by an annual average of 2.2% in Danish krone terms during 2014-18. In US dollar terms, we project average growth of 1.2% over the forecast period.
Spending on pharmaceutical products in Denmark is already lower than in many other European countries. The country spent 6.5% of its healthcare budget on pharmaceuticals in 2012, compared with an OECD average of 15.9%, which meant that it ranked last of 33 countries.
