In 2015-20, energy consumption will grow at an average of 4% per year, supported by strong economic growth, higher income levels and growing vehicle use. Annual energy consumption will rise from 36m tonnes oil equivalent (toe) in 2014 to 45.7m toe in 2020.
Colombia's carbon emissions are among the lowest of the world's medium-sized economies, but they are set to rise as economic growth remains strong over the next decade, and as car ownership increases and industrialisation gathers pace. Nonetheless, a greater reliance on renewable energy will keep carbon emissions low, at around 1.5 tonnes per head on average in 2015-20.
