摘要

Thailand's consumer-goods market will see slow growth as aggregate demand remains relatively weak following political unrest and a coup during the first half of 2014. Data from the National Economic and Social Development Board show that the economy grew by 1.1% in the second quarter and by just 0.6% in year-on-year terms.
The retail market is expected to grow over the 2015-19 forecast period, as increasing consumer demand (including for tourism services) generates a bounce-back to steady growth: sales are forecast to increase by around 3.3% per year in real terms from 2015 (once a contraction in 2014, stemming from continued unrest, is priced in).
Increasing median household wealth during the forecast period will shift demand in urban areas towards convenience foods and modern retail options, away from traditional markets. The proportion of households earning above US$25,000 a year will increase to 20% by 2019, from around 11% in 2015, while disposable income per person is forecast to grow by an average of 3.9% annually during this period.
