The mobile-phone penetration rate in South Korea exceeds 100% and is likely to continue to rise steadily in 2014-18. According to the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP), mobile-phone contracts numbered 56m in July 2014-a greater number than the country's total population, estimated at 50.4m.
Consumer spending will be driven by demand for mobile data services amid strong demand for smartphones and other mobile Internet-enabled devices.
