摘要

India has the third-largest retail market in Asia, after China and Japan, although sales remain low on a per-head basis. Following a slowdown in 2012-13, The Economist Intelligence Unit expects retail sales growth to accelerate in 2014-18. There is huge growth potential in the Indian market, with retail sales expected to pass US$itrn in 2015 and to double in US-dollar terms over the next five years.
The retail sector, which is the country's second-largest employer after agriculture, is undergoing a structural shift, as supply is slowly moving away from small, femily-run shops to larger, organised retail outlets. All the major domestic conglomerates, including Reliance Industries, the Tata Group, the Aditya Birla Group, Bharti Enterprises and R Raheja, will maintain ambitious expansion plans in 2014-18.
