摘要
Austria is a relatively small but high-income market. Like other European countries, it will grapple with population ageing in the coming years. The Economist Intelligence Unit nevertheless expects the population to grow at a rate of 0.2% per year up to 2030 as a result of immigration. Austria enjoys a high level of personal disposable income per head, estimated at US$27,300 in 2012, which should see positive growth throughout the forecast period.
Austria's savings rate as a percentage of disposable income has traditionally been higher than in most euro area countries, averaging over 9% in the past decade. Although we expect it to be slightly lower in the forecast period—at around 6-7%—it will remain high by European standards. Investment behaviour in Austria is generally conservative, with cash and deposits accounting for about one-half of household investments. Capital market instruments (shares, bonds and mutual funds) make up another one-third, with the remainder comprising insurance technical reserves (reserves for outstanding claims due to households on insurance policies).
