摘要
The Czech Republic spent 7.5% of GDP on healthcare in 2013 (a proportion that has remained unchanged since 2011). This is lower than the OECD average of 9.5%, but higher than in Poland and Hungary. With the population stable, The Economist Intelligence Unit expects healthcare spending to rise broadly in line with GDP in 2015-19; the share of healthcare spending in GDP will therefore remain broadly unchanged.
After rising by 2.7% in local-currency terms in 2011, total healthcare spending growth slowed to average 1.1% in 2012-13. The slowdown reflected tighter fiscal policy and weaker economic growth.
We expect healthcare spending to rise gradually over the forecast period as the rate of economic growth increases, particularly now that a government led by the centre-left Czech Social Democratic Party (CSSD) is in power. This will bring annual average growth in health spending in 2015-19 to 5.3% in koruna terms. Population growth will play only a small part in this rise in spending.
