Mobile penetration has expanded dramatically, as competition in the sector has strengthened, handset prices have fallen and investment has improved the quality of services. Relatively high per-head disposable incomes have also helped the sector.
According to the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH), on the basis of the number of registered SIM cards, there were 11.5m mobile subscribers at the end of June 2014, equivalent to a mobile penetration rate of 116.8%
