The Economist Intelligence Unit expects the market to continue to grow as operators seek to attract lower-spending consumers. However, amid rising geopolitical strains in Europe between the EU and Russia, we expect growth to falter in the short term, and to be restrained thereafter by increasing saturation of the telecommunications market. At a forecast annual average of around 2.5% in 2015-19, growth will be low by the standards of the recent past.
The four established operators are T-Mobile, owned by Deutsche Telekom (Germany); Centertel, a joint venture between Orange (France) and TPSA; P4, owned by a consortium of investors based in Cyprus and Iceland, and regarded as an alternative operator; and Polkomtel, which is owned by a local media tycoon, Zygmunt Solorz-Zak, and operates the Plus network.
