The main threat to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is discontent at the rate of improvement in living standards. This will be a key election issue in 2016 and could well cost the NDC power.Pre-election spending in 2016 will put renewed pressure on the fiscal deficit, but more strenuous efforts to bring it back down are expected in 2017-19.
The large current-account deficit will come down only gradually during the forecast period, as increases in oil production will be oflset by lower prices.
